Unbeknown to Janeway she was beneath a console attempting to repair it. “Why I’m not sick?” Belanna’s voice came back muffled. “From what I could make out yes,” answered Janeway, before turning away from the doctor to use her blood-smeared combadge, “Janeway to engineering, Belanna please report to sickbay.” “A projectile?” questioned the doctor, running a medical scanner over Paris. Thankfully Paris had stopped screaming in favour of moaning softly, delirious from the pain, allowing Janeway to inform the doctor as to what had transpired. “What happened,” the EMH asked, assisting Janeway in getting Paris onto the main diagnostic bed. He phased into life in his office but upon seeing Paris moved swiftly to Janeways side. Reacting instinctively Janeway slapped her bloodied hand to her combadge and ordered an emergency beam up to Voyagers sickbay.Īs soon as she materialized in sickbay Janeway summoned the doctor. Paris started shaking violently, and when Janeway looked at the gory debris that lay within his palm she knew why. As he did she got a view of the gaping hole where his eye used to be. Some how her voice cut through his screams and Paris allowed Janeway to lower his hands. “Tom let me see,” Paris resisted, crying out in pain. Janeway knelt before Paris and taking hold of his blood slicked wrists tried to pull Paris hands away from his face. Not even the governor Paris had been in company of, who was conspicuous by his absence. To Janeways astonishment not one of the voyeurs were doing anything to help him. Tom Paris her trusted con officer and friend, was kneeling on the ground holding his bloody face and screaming in agony. She had expected something but not the sight before her. Breaking her stride into a flat out run Janeway elbowed and excused her way into theĬentre of the gathering crowd. Around him people stopped what they were doing and stared, while unseen one man ducked for cover and another scurried away.Ĭaptain Kathryn Janeway heard the screams from across the far side of the busy market place, and instantly recognized them as coming from her lieutenant. Scarlet blood seeped through his trembling fingers and splattered onto the mosaic floor. Lieutenant Thomas Eugene Paris didn’t hear the shot that fired the projectile or see it coming, but he felt the searing pain as it exploded in his left eye.Ĭollapsing to his knees, Paris put his hands up to his injured face and screamed.
